As an Off Road Extreme Rider , I'm always on the hunt for the perfect tyre that can withstand the abuse from a KTM 300 on full sing! . Check out my review of PLEWS EN1 "The Tough One" Extreme Enduro Tyre:
Durability
We ride a mixture of woodland and rocky terrains which both have different wear factors due to sharp rock and soft tree roots.
First Ride in Woodland Terrain
We start at 8am and finish around 4pm covering approx. 40-50miles. The tyre will get used for 6 hours straight, full RPM clutch drops on the KTM 300 TPI no mercy! Climbing hills all day singing the bike flat out in 2nd gear boiling over sometimes we really do hammer tyres! Surprisingly for a super soft tyre its hardly lost its edge as you can see here in the photo below just after being washed.
6 Hours Use
Second Ride in Rocky Terrain
Again we started riding around 8am and finish around 4pm, another 6 hours ish of riding. I did get the Rabaconda out and spin the tyre just so we are using the fresh edge. The terrain we mainly rode was riverbeds with sharp and round rock with lots of step ups. This was all low rpm work with occasional blips to get up step ups and waterfalls. If I am being 100% honest I struggled to break traction on wet and dry rock. The grip was phenomenal! You can now start to see quite a lot of wear on the tyre after 12 hours of use, both edges have now completely gone it however was still gripping on muddy hills but you can tell its now beginning to loose traction which I will cover in the next section.

Traction
A quick note on my setup:
I run a Lucioli tube instead of a mousse so I can adjust the pressures when out riding. For Extreme I normally run around 4-6 psi dependant on the type of riding, this helps if you plan on spinning tyres and using tyres that have worn down after 2+ rides.
Now the grip on woodland terrain was amazing ( It was a brand new tyre lets not forget!) , riding up loose brash hitting angled polished tree roots it just sailed straight over with no issue. We started to enter some switch backs that had a mixture of rock, mud and tree roots which it handled with ease. Some of the other riders with a more expensive well know brand was stuck digging holes!
On the rocky terrain riding up river beds I dropped the bike into first gear and literally crawled over all the boulders and blipped up all the step ups. On dry and wet rock it never broke traction, I literally passed three other riders on this stream section who were stuck spinning there back wheel. Again they had a leading brand name tyre fitted which they had paid though the nose for!
Handling
Most tyres have a very flimsy sidewall or carcass, Plews Tyres have an extremely thick highly flexible carcass which absorbs bumps and hits when your moving fast. This coupled with your suspension helps to smooth out the ride, given we ride for long periods of time every little helps. This means you can site further back on the seat weighting the back wheel as you don’t get kicked about as much when riding, this also helps on hill climbs by adding extra traction to the back wheel. Also the less feedback your bike bring up though the suspension and foot pegs stops your body absorbing all the vibrations and hits, this all contributes towards recovery after a ride.
Versatility:
While the Tough One is aimed at Extreme Enduro its also has the following approvals ECE – D.O.T – ACU & FIM Compatible. The compound is designed to be lightweight and high performance while being designed to fit within the parameters of the FIM regulations helping riders with the cost of racing crisis we are all facing.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, the PLEWS EN1 "The Tough One" Extreme Enduro Tyre sets a new benchmark for durability and performance this is definitely my go to tyre. With its robust construction, superior traction, precise handling, and exceptional versatility,
Whether you're a seasoned enduro competitor or a trail rider, the EN1 Tyres will give you that competitive edge you need to win or just smoke your mates on a hill!
